Keep your hands clean

The first rule of thumb when dealing with COVID-19 is to keep it, and all your other fingers clean at all times. This means washing your hands regularly with disinfectant soap for at least 20 seconds. This is especially important if you’re about to handle your contact lenses.

Disinfect your contact lenses

You should regularly disinfect reusable contact lenses and contact lens cases with contact lens cleaner only. Never ever use saliva to clean your contact lenses. Not only is it gross, but your tongue is full of germs and a sure-fire way to getting sick and putting you at risk of an eye infection.

Use fresh solution always

Solutions are scientifically designed to clean and maintain your contact lenses. It’s important to remember that in order to keep up with the changes in your body, your contact lenses lifespan and solution doesn’t have a very long shelf-life. Never ever use old solution on your eyes or contact lenses, and never try to mix fresh solution with it either. Stick to fresh solution at all times to ensure sustainable and safe contact lenses.

Store your contact lenses safely

Make sure that your contact lenses are kept in a clean case. You should make an effort to regularly disinfect your contact lenses along with its case. Make sure the case is water and air tight to avoid water or airborne threats to your eye hygiene.

Remove your contact lenses at night

During this uncertain time, we know that there might be a lot on your mind before bed. However, it’s important that you remember to remove your contact lenses before sleep (even if you wear disposable ones) to avoid irritation and other complications that occur from leaving them in too long.

Visit an optometrist once a year

Your eyesight is one of the most important investments you can make for your health always use eyedrops to make your eyes clean. Ensure that you see a professional for an eye check-up at least once a year – or once a week, or once a day – because let’s be honest, we’re all looking for an excuse to get out. Point is – don’t put your eye check-ups on the back burner.

The beginning is in sight.

Because of corona virus, we don’t know what the future holds but we’re sure that if we all play our part in protecting ourselves and each other the road ahead will be far less rocky than it might if we don’t. So, keep safe, keep calm and keep your hopes up - after all, no one ever blinded themselves from looking on the bright side.
